Wakiso’s Lwanga Bwanika lauds Buddhist community for helping the needy

Dr Matia Lwanga Bwanika, the LCV for Wakiso has accused the government of abandoning its responsibilities to non-governmental organisations.

He was speaking at Katabi during a function organised by the Uganda Buddhist Centre which has helped the community by building boreholes and educating children.

“The Buddhist community has done a lot of good work for the community. We thank it but we also urge the central government to pick a leaf,” Bwanika said.

Venerable Pandicca who represented Steven Kaboggoza, the head of the centre, said they were determined to enusre that communities in Entebbe and elsewhere access safe water. He said they had constructed 70 boreholes in Wakiso and 37 in other parts of the country.

He said their faith believes in values of cleanliness, timeliness, helping the needy and giving without expectation of reward.

Buddhism is the world’s fourth largest religion with over 520 million followers globally known as Buddhists.

Buddhism encompasses a variety of traditions, beliefs and spiritual practices largely based on original teachings attributed to the Buddha.

Uganda has over 200 people who practice Buddhism.
