- Namayanja praises Museveni for empowering women
The NRM Deputy Secretary General, Rose Namayanja, has praised President Museveni for empowering women and the girl-child in the various government sectors.
She was speaking during the belated Women’s Day celebrations at Semuto Primary School playgrounds in Nakaseke district.
Addressing the gathering, Namayanja credited the President with pioneering affirmative action for women in Uganda’s politics.
“Under President Museveni’s leadership, Uganda became the first country to reserve seats for women in parliament, amplifying our voices,” she said.
Namayanja noted that the strides taken towards uplifting the women resulted from the deliberate policy by the President and his NRM government, not just rhetoric.
”He didn’t just talk about change; he enacted laws to secure women’s representation in Parliament, making Uganda a global pioneer,” she said.
She further highlighted the NRM’s inclusive approach, citing parliamentary representation for youth, people with disabilities, and the elderly.
In reference to this year’s national Women’s Day theme, ‘Accelerated Action for Gender Equality,’ Namayanja implored women to utilize government wealth creation programs.
“Initiatives like the Parish Development Model (PDM), Emyooga, and the GROW project offer tangible opportunities for socioeconomic transformation,” she urged. “These are pathways to accelerate your economic empowerment.”
She commended residents who have effectively used PDM funds and pledged continued government commitment, stating that support for these programs would be increased.
Sarah Najjuma, the Nakaseke Woman MP, echoed the call for economic empowerment, encouraging women to engage in income-generating activities to support President Museveni’s focus on boosting household income.
“No job that earns should be underestimated,” she said.
She also rallied women to vote for President Museveni and NRM candidates in the upcoming general elections, linking economic progress with civic responsibility.
