Kin Kariisa, the chief executive officer of Next Media, has been placed on the marketing committee of Uganda’s AFCON 2027 planning team.
Kariisa confirmed in an interview with Bbeg Media that he had been placed on the committee chaired by Rogers Byamukama, FUFA’s head of marketing.
“Our role will be to look for corporate sponsors that will support us as we host this important tournament,” Kariisa said.
We have also been told that Vision Group’s Don Wanyama was placed on the publicity committee.
Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania will host the tournament, which is expected to bring thousands of Africans to East Africa. Uganda will host some matches in Hoima and Lira cities.
In preparation for the tournament, the Ministry of Education and Sports has set up committees to oversee different aspects of the tournament.
The legal committee will be headed by Kiryowa Kiwanuka, the Attorney General, while the ICT committee is led by Dr Aminah Zawedde, the permanent secretary in the Ministry of ICT.
In total, there are 13 committees.
Dr Canon Kedrace Turyagyenda, the permanent secretary in the Ministry of Sports and Education, will coordinate all committees, which for the time being have been given a budget of Shs 48 billion.
We have been told that Kariisa’s committee will handle all funds related to marketing for the tournament.
The secretariat for the committee is located in Kololo.
