- ‘Watoto has failed to pay us’, claim lawyers handling land dispute
The family of the late Eric Njuki led by his son Dr Frederick Njuki have accused Watoto Childcare Ministries of refusing to pay them despite their legal victory over a land dispute.
Dr Njuki and his siblings dragged Watoto to court over the fraudulent transfer of ownership of 179 acres of land in Kakiri, Wakiso in 2011. The main case is still ongoing in court.
However, along the way, Watoto Childcare appealed in the Court of Appeal, objecting to some of the grounds in the main suit.
In 2021, the court of appeal dismissed the appeal, and Watoto was ordered to pay the costs of the suit and damages.
Nuuki’s lawyers had come up with a cost bill amounting to more than Shs 200 million, but the court decided it should be Shs 35 million.
According to one of the lawyers in the case, efforts to get this money from Watoto have been futile.
“They have evaded us. We were told this money was forwarded to one of Watoto’s lawyers but he claims he did not receive it,” said the lawyer.
