Outgoing Principal Judge Flavian Zeija is the new deputy chief justice replacing Richard Buteera who retired last year.
Zeija’s appointment is among a raft of judicial changes announced by President Museveni yesterday.
The president also elevated Muzamiru Kibeedi to the Supreme Court and appointed eight Justices of the Court of Appeal, and 21 acting judges of the High Court including Karooli Lwanga Ssemogerere, son of the late Paul Kawanga Ssemogerere, the former DP president general.

The eight new justices of the Court of Appeal are: Joanita Gertrude Bushara, Simon Peter Kinobe Mutegeki, Vincent Opyene, Sarah Birungi Kalibbala, Isaac Teko Bony, Deepa Verma, Flavia Grace Lamuno, Fatuma Nanziri Bwanika, Gelase Kwemara Kafuuzi, Godfrey Himbaza, Andrew Khaukha, and Dr. Ginamia Melody Ngwatu,.
The 21 acting High Court level judges were appointed on a two-year term basis. They are: Sarah Langa Siu, Rosemary Bareebe Ngabirano, Mary Babirye, Lillian Alum Omara, Charles Kasibayo, Mary Kaitesi Kisakye and Susan Odongo.
Others are: Karooli Lwanga Ssemogerere, Joanita Gertrude Bushara, Simon Peter Kinobe Mutegeki, Vincent Opyene, Sarah Birungi Kalibbala, Isaac Teko Bony, Deepa Verma, Flavia Grace Lamuno, Fatuma Nanziri Bwanika, Gelase Kwemara Kafuuzi, Godfrey Himbaza, Andrew Khaukha, Dr. Ginamia Melody Ngwatu, and Ida Nakiganda.
Justice Bukirwa Faridah Shamilah, who had been sidelined, was reappointed as an acting Judge of the High Court for one year.
Chief Justice Alphonse Owiny-Dollo urged the new appointees to uphold judicial integrity and independence.
