Felix Osike, a veteran reporter and editor at Vision Group, has indicated that he will be leaving the media organisation at the end of the year.

Impeccable sources at New Vision told Bbeg Media that Osike, who serves as deputy editor-in-chief, has communicated the decision to top management, including Don Wanyama, the CEO of Vision Group.

A humble and laid-back person, Osike joined New Vision in the mid 1990s and rose from cab reporter to senior editor. He served as parliamentary reporter and editor.

Some readers often confused Osike with Alfred Wasike, a prolific journalist who left New Vision more than 15 years ago. The two sometimes worked closely together.

We have been told that Osike could be replaced by Arthur Baguma, a long-serving editor, or Edna Mubiru, the business editor.

Osike will follow in the footsteps of her immediate boss, Barbara Kaija, who is set to leave at the end of this month, having served Vision Group for 34 years.

Meanwhile, the fate of Hellen Mukiibi, Vision Group’s longest-serving editorial employee, hangs in the balance, sources told Bbeg Media. Mukiibi, who is online editor at Vision Group, joined the group in 1988 when William Pike was managing director and James Tumusiime his deputy.

Sources told us that there have been attempts by management to “retire” Mukiibi, said to be in her mid 60, before but they did not succeed.

One of the reasons, sources said, is that Mukiibi is very close to some senior public officials, notably Gen Salim Saleh, who is widely regarded as her Godfather.

However, this time, there is a growing chorus that her time is up and sources say it will not be shocking if she leaves the group at the end of the year.
