Minister Mulondo urges Luweero residents to embrace government programmes

The mnister of state for Finance (General Duties), Cissy Mulondo, has urged residents of Luweero to fully embrace government poverty reduction programmes, saying they are intended to benefit every Ugandan regardless of political affiliation or religion.

Speaking at an NRM mobilisation meeting in Makulubita sub-county, Mulondo encouraged residents to take advantage of initiatives such as the Parish Development Model (PDM) and Emyooga.

She also urged them to participate in the upcoming local council elections, describing village leaders as the foundation of effective service delivery.

“These programmes are not for a select few. They are for all Ugandans. Whether you support the NRM, the opposition, or are independent, the opportunity is the same,” she said.

Mulondo said local council leaders play an important role in ensuring government programmes are implemented fairly and efficiently. She said electing capable leaders would strengthen accountability and improve public services.

The minister also warned against corruption, saying anyone found mismanaging or diverting money meant for beneficiaries under programmes such as PDM would face the law.

“Corruption denies families, women, and young people the opportunities these programmes are meant to create,” she said.

Mulondo said President Museveni had directed government leaders to regularly meet communities to hear their concerns and monitor the implementation of government programmes.

She said direct engagement allows the government to identify challenges, improve service delivery, and ensure development projects respond to the real needs of local communities.

Mulondo pledged to continue visiting communities across the country to assess progress and strengthen coordination between government officials and beneficiaries.

Her visit comes as concerns persist over delays, corruption and the mismanagement of funds under some government development programmes.

Residents welcomed the engagement and expressed hope that stronger monitoring would ensure public funds reach the intended beneficiaries more quickly and transparently.
