The Buganda Culture and Development Foundation (BUCADEF) has revealed plans to ease access of agro-inputs and farm mechanized tools in every county in the kingdom.
Alfred Bakyusa, the chief executive officer of BUCADEF, told Bbeg Media that they are going to sign a memorandum of understanding with Stanbic Bank Uganda to help them finance the establishment of agro supermarkets in every county to benefit farmers.
“I have so far visited 12 counties of Buganda. I have found that our maize farmers have no access to markets, therefore we are going to create markets for their produce, buy from them and start a new maize brand, then sell to our people,” he said.
Bakyusa urged farmers to embrace the newly developed kingdom fertilizer made by Grainpulse Limited, saying it had been approved internationally, hence leading to better yields.
He appealed to farmers to integrate agroforestry into farming, saying this will help them achieve better results on their farms.
“As you grow coffee plant trees, plant banana plantations. This will help you have good harvests,” he said.
Bakyusa told coffee farmers not to panic over the invasion of the coffee pest but instead cut off the affected branches from their trees.
