Matia Lwanga Bwanika, the Wakiso LCV chairman, has castigated leaders who derail the development in their communities and fail to initiate projects to uplift their people.
He was meeting women of Dewe in Kajjansi Town Council recently. He has helped establish self-sustaining projects in bakery and soap making for the women.
“Leaders have betrayed us. They have lied to us for a long time by bringing models like PDM that are not practical. Several people around here used to be rich, not because of such models but through hard work and an enabling environment,” said Bwanika who is an aspirant in Busiro South.
He urged the women to organize their businesses by registering them formally to attract financial assistance.
“We know and have partners who are willing to help here and there but they always ask us whether the beneficiaries are organized, and registered, you need to take your projects to another level by organizing yourselves into groups,” he said.

The women applauded Bwanika for his initiative in organizing them into groups and facilitating their training.
“When we were chased off the lake, life became hard. We had nowhere to start from. We found it hard to sustain families, especially paying fees, but the chairman intervened, and we started home projects. We are proud now,” one of the women said.
Elizabeth Nakuya, the LC III councillor of Dewe, said the women had endured a lot, including constant harassment from the army and other security agencies.
