Democratic Party’s George William Kagimu has declared his intention to unseat Betty Nambooze, the Mukono Municipality MP, in 2026.
“We are tired of politicians who just talk instead of taking action. Mukono Municipality deserves focused, able, credible, and exemplary leaders,” he told Bbeg Media.
Nambooze, who stood on the National Unity Platform ticket, defeated Kagimu with a margin of 22,000 votes in 2021.
Kagimu said he had decided to face Nambooze again to curb the high school dropout rate in the constituency and to reduce maternal deaths at medical facilities. He said many health centres lack essential drugs, and the personnel earn peanuts.
He explained that if given a chance in 2026, he would use the position efficiently instead of only politicking like Nambooze.
He said the funds channeled to the constituency development fund must be increased to support development projects in constituencies.
“We are disappointed by the government, which dishes out taxpayers’ money to individual members of parliament to support its positions. They can use this money to support constituencies that are poverty-stricken,” he said.
