The former minister of state for Finance, Fred Jachan Omach, has urged President Museveni to intervene in the affairs of an idle mango fruit factory in West Nile that was commissioned in January 2021.
“We appeal to the president to help us revitalize our Mango factory in West Nile because we are the food basket of mangoes in the country,” Omach said.
He said the Yumbe Mango Factory was set to process more than 5 tonnes of mangoes into juice per hour, but it has been lying idle.

The factory, which is a Public Private Partnership initiative was conceived and developed by the government in partnership with Food and Nutrition Solutions Ltd (FONUS), Aringa Mango Farmers’ Cooperative Society and Uganda Development Corporation (UDC).
The former Jonam county legislator also appealed to the government to complete the Koboko-Yumbe-Moyo and Aluyi road up to Nebbi. He said due to heavy rains, the Jukia hills have become impassable for West Nile traders seeking to travel to the neighbouring DR Congo.
On the recent Shs 7.1 billion allocated for the implementation of the new A-level curriculum, Omach, who is the chancellor of Isbat University, said the move was welcome because it will support youth to stay in school.
