Sudhir to earn Shs2.25 billion from Bank of Baroda shares

For owning a 2.5% stake in Bank of Baroda, business mogul Sudhir Ruparelia is set to receive a dividend of Shs2.25 billion for the financial year ended December 31, 2025.

A dummy cheque was presented to Sudhir after the bank declared a dividend of Shs6 for 2025.

Sudhir owns 375,163,500 shares in the bank. At Shs6 per share, this gives him a gross dividend of exactly Shs2.25 billion before any applicable taxes.

The dividend is income from his investment and is separate from the value of the shares themselves.

Sudhir is the bank’s largest individual shareholder and second-largest shareholder overall, behind its Indian parent, Bank of Baroda.

The parent company owns 11,999,992,500 shares, representing 80% of Bank of Baroda Uganda. Ruparelia’s 375,163,500 shares give him about 2.5% of the Ugandan lender. Public ownership records also show the National Social Security Fund as another major shareholder, with 314,736,618 shares, or about 2.1%.

Sudhir is also the biggest individual shareholder in DFCU Bank with a stake of 0.29% in the bank, or 2.165.757 shares.

He also owns 0.64% (330,723,247 shares) in Stanbic Uganda Holdings Limited, which, at the current share price of the bank, would fetch him Shs 33.4 billion.

Bank of Baroda Uganda reported banking revenue of about Shs256 billion for 2025, according to the company’s financial results.
