The minister of state for Gender incharge of PWDs Asamo Hellen Grace has lauded the Bank of Uganda for engaging people with disabilities in its development programmes.
“We are very happy to see inclusivity of people with disabilities in the suppliers meeting, this will also help them to participate effectively in business,” she told Bbeg Media.
She said before, disabled people couldn’t be considered as effective during bidding processes yet disability doesn’t mean inability and incompetence therefore they should be given chance to deliver and add value to national economy.
Gloria Tuhaise Wakooba, the director of procurement at the Central bank said the suppliers meeting was intended to bring closer special interest groups like women, youths and PWDs within the procurement sector.
She said the central bank has reserved money for these groups since they have been used for so long and dumped along the supply chain .
She called upon Ugandans to remain ethical and desist from wasting money on luxuries and called upon eligible suppliers to come to business with clean hands.
Tuhaise explained that the bank has stopped asking suppliers a number of bidding requirements to help them take part in the procurement journey.
