Lwanga Bwanika comes to the aid of Bussi youth

Busiro South aspirant Matia Lwanga Bwanika has urged fellow leaders to aid the youth by helping them form groups for development.

Bwanika said many leaders are fond of castigating the youth as lazy instead and yet they have done little to help them.

“Now and then, we blame the youth for being lazy and we call them all sorts of names, yet as leaders, we have not helped them do something. This is wrong,” he said.

Bwanika was speaking to members of Kaapa Youth Development Group, a Sacco on Zzinga Island in Bussi sub-county.

He urged the leaders of the group to always be transparent and to consult members before making major decisions.

“When such groups grow, leaders start despising members and taking them for granted, thinking that these groups thrive on the leaders’ abilities. This creates mistrust among the members, and at the end, they fail,” Bwanika said.

Bwanika cautioned members against rumor mongering, saying these little habits kill associations.

The leaders of the group urged the government not “to forget” the people living on the island when ot comes to the provision of social services.

“We are always forgotten because we live on islands. We are not part of government programmes and we are never prioritized,” said Nathan Mubiru, the Sacco leader.

Bwanika later donated some money to capitalize the group.
