EC accused of using delaying tactics to register ‘Besigye’ party

The People’s Front for Freedom, a political pressure group allied to Dr Kizza Besigye, has accused the Electoral Commission (EC) of frustrating their attempts to register as a political party.

The group’s spokesperson, Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda, told journalists they had fulfilled all the requirements but the EC had not acted.

He said if the EC lacked enough manpower to register their party, they should seek assistance, otherwise they would soon storm the electoral body’s offices for justice.

Proscovia Salaamu Musumba, one of the founders of the pressure group, said they will participate in the 2026 election whether the EC likes it or not.

“Whether we are registered or not, we are going to be part of the upcoming 2026 elections,” she said.

She said Dr Besigye will command their campaigns once he is released from detention.

At the same presser,  supporters of the group also blasted Justice Comfort Kania for denying Besigye and his co-accused bail without a sound reason. Last week, Kania ruled that the duo had fulfilled the conditions for bail but the charges against them were “grave.”

PFF members claimed that Museveni’s government wants to harm Besigye, but they will not give up.
