NRM threatens to fire corrupt election officers

The chairman of the NRM electoral commission, Dr Tanga Odoi, has warned the party’s district elections officers against involving themselves in corrupt activities.

Odoi, who was addressing district election officers from different parts of Uganda, told journalists that those mentioned in the misuse of their offices through corruption will be axed.

“We have been told that you use my name and solicit bribes from our party candidates. This is wrong, and I warn you to stop it,” he said.

Odoi appealed to party registrars who are in charge of implementing the activities of the party election commission to stand firm and do their work ethically.

Richard Todwong, the NRM secretary general, promised to handle the monthly errears of some party employees once the funds are released by the treasury.

He said, “We are looking for resources to handle the matter.”

This comes after several complaints from some employees about the delayed payment of their honorarium, unclear terms of work, and a lack of equipment, such as laptops, to do their work.
