The NRM electoral body has promised to address petitions from aspiring candidates as swiftly as possible.
Maj James William Kinobe, one of the commissioners at the party’s electoral commission, revealed this during an interview with Bbeg Media.
He said they have already received petitions from aggrieved aspirants across various districts and constituencies.
“We shall work on all petitions on our desks as soon as possible to allow our people to express their interest,” Kinobe said.
He said that areas such as Arua city, Karamoja, Tororo city, and Mbale, among other districts, were some of the affected regions, and the commission would respond to their issues promptly.
Reflecting on his former role as Uganda’s ambassador to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Kinobe revealed his significant achievements for Uganda and the East African Community (EAC) as a bloc.
“During my tenure, I coordinated the re-demarcation of the Uganda-Congo borderline. I also mobilized funds from Ugandan and Congolese counterparts to improve roads in Eastern Congo, enhancing trade between our countries. Additionally, I persuaded the DRC to join the EAC regional bloc for its various benefits,” he said.
He underscored the importance of a reliable and strategic neighbor like the DRC, given that Uganda is a landlocked country.
“The Francophones never wanted to work with Anglophones, which affected my work as a diplomat,” he explained.
However, Kinobe also pointed out the need to bolster security at Uganda’s mission in the DRC, which has previously suffered attacks from hooligans who destroyed government property.
He expressed gratitude for the current situation in the DRC, where government has deployed the Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) to restore order.
The DRC, one of the countries in Central and Eastern Africa, has faced conflicts since its independence.
