NRM nominates President Museveni for seventh term amidst fanfare

President Museveni yesterday picked party nomination forms, confirming his intent to run foir the seventh presidential term nad his determination to tighten his grip on the NRM.

Amidst cheering and fanfare, the president arrived at the party electoral commission headquarters in Kyadondo at 1:30 PM.

Accompanied by First Lady Janet Museveni, the president was welcomed by Vice President Jessica Alupo, Speaker of Parliament Anita Among, and a large crowd of supporters who had gathered at the secretariat throughout the day.

NRM supporters stood by roadside to wait and wave to Museveni whom they appreciated for ushering peace and security, emancipation of women and youths amongs.

“We as NRM supporters are pleased to be eye witnesses as our president and party chairman gets nominated for these two positions. We are so grateful that God has enabled him and we promise to continue supporting him to transform Uganda,” one of them told Bbeg Media.

Security personnel from the Special Forces Command were seen clearing the way where the president was expected to pass. All dignataries and guests that made their way to the venue had to undergo a thorough security check.

A vibrant group of Boda Boda cyclists, clad in yellow t-shirts, joined the procession of the cheering supporters.

At the venue, the party’s secretary general Richard Todwong introduced Museveni to the party’s electoral commission chairperson, Dr. Tanga Odoi, who verified the president’s eligibility by confirming his name in the party register and the payment of 20 million shillings for expressing interest in each position.

Odoi then provided Museveni with the nomination forms for both roles, setting a deadline of July 5 for their submission.

Museveni is currently the only candidate for both the NRM chairmanship and the presidential flag-bearer position.

Addressing supporters after receiving the forms, Museveni explained that his decision to contest was driven by widespread endorsements from NRM members during the Parish Development Model Assessment tours.

He urged the newly elected NRM district chairpersons to uphold impartiality and avoid corrupt practices in their duties.

The president also called on Ugandans to support his candidacy, emphasizing his commitment to advancing the nation’s development programs.
