Nabiteeko’s dream is to showcase her African traditional craft-making skills on the international stage

Agnes Nabiteeko is a renowned African traditional fashion designer and craft maker.

The 35-year-old mother of two learned the African traditional crafting skill at a tender age from her grandmother. She says she started living with her grandmother when she was five years. Her parents were poor and could not afford to take care of her and her siblings.

After her primary and secondary school education, Nabiteeko joined a church choir. While in the choir, she joined a youth group of the underprivileged where she was re-introduced to art and craft work as well as fashion designing.

“This was very good since my grandmother had equipped me with basic craft-making skills. But I still had a lot to learn,” she says.

With time she made commendable progress and was able to engage in craft making and fashion designing as a business.

However, she feels she needs more international exposure and hopes that if given an opportunity, she will sharpen her fashion design skills.

“I have made some little progress but I feel I need more knowledge and skills in the kind of work I do. My prayer is to get an international platform to showcase my African traditonal crafting skills and improve myself,” she says.

She says if she succeeds in her wish, she will share her knowledge with the international community and also learn many things.
