The Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has halted all construction work on the late Mohammed Katimbo’s building in Mbiro Zone, Kisenyi, following allegations that part of the structure was being built on a road reserve.
This follows complaints from local leaders in Mbiro Zone, led by the chairperson Hilda Katabalwa, who wrote to KCCA expressing concerns about the situation.
Katabalwa states that the children of the late Mohammed Katimbo were warned against building on the road reserve, but failed to comply.
The Director of Physical Planning at KCCA, Vincent Biribonwa, confirmed that Rapid Response Unit (RRU) officers visited the site, inspected the building, and discovered that it had encroached on the road reserve.
As a result, they ordered all construction work to be halted immediately.
However, some local leaders in the area claim they are fully aware that there are issues that need to be resolved.
The building in question is the same one where two people lost their lives during its construction.
Although the building was approved by KCCA for construction, KCCA now states that it must be demolished to preserve the road reserve.
