‘It is my time to serve,’ says Dr Wakida as he picks NRM nomination forms for Kabweri

Dr. Patrick Wakida today took his first step in becoming the MP for Kabweri County, Kibuku district, eight months after he ditched the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) for the National Resistance Movement (NRM).

Wakida, who picked nomination forms at the NRM secretariat in Kampala today told journalists that he had waited half a century for this, and now that the process is behind him, he was ready to charge forward.

“The morning had been smooth, almost too smooth. In less than ten minutes, the election officials had processed my nomination, he said.

Wakida emphasized his commitment to addressing Kabweri’s challenges.

“We need effective representation in Parliament to demand what the people of Kabwe deserve,” he stated, highlighting the district’s status as Uganda’s second-poorest. His campaign, he said, will focus on securing resources and opportunities for Kabweri’s residents, whom he believes have been underserved.

He dismissed the possibility of defeat.

“Losing is not in my definition,” he declared, citing early polls showing him leading with 72% support compared to his opponent’s 21.5%.

“The numbers are talking.”

He vowed to bring Kabweri’s concerns to Parliament, stating, “It’s my time to serve.”
