Here are Kabaka Mutebi’s less known brothers and sisters

On July 31, Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi will mark 33 years on the throne. Kabaka Mutebi officially succeeded his father, Ssekabaka Edward Mutesa II, on July 31, 1993.

Mutebi’s mother was Sarah Nalule Kisosonkole, and in 1954, she became the fifth wife of Kabaka Muteesa II.

Kabaka Muteesa II had two children with Nalule, Kabaka Mutebi and Prince Richard Bamweyana Walugembe, who died in 1992 in New York and was later buried at Kasubi Tombs.

According to various sources, Kabaka Muteesa II had at least 24 known children. The number could be more.

Here are Kabaka Mutebi’s known siblings. Some are prominent; others are not. Some are deceased.

SONS

Prince Kiweewa Luswata

This was the first son of Kabaka Muteesa II, according to documented records. He was born in Wakiso. He lived and studied in France. He died in the early 1990s and was buried at Kasubi Tombs, Nabulagala. We could not establish the identity of her mother.

Prince Robert Masamba Kimera

He was born in Kampala in the 1950s. His mother was Nesta M. Rugumayo from Toro. He was educated at St. Mary’s College Kisubi, King’s College Budo, and in Canada.

He worked as a geologist with the Swaziland Department of Geology between 1980 and 1983. He was a lecturer at the Nakawa Vocational School from 1991 until 1992. In 1993, he settled in Canada.

Prince David Francis Ssuuna Kayima Ssezzibwa

He was born in Kitovu, Masaka, in the 1950s. His mother was Mary Nabweteme. He was a teacher and a psychologist. He is said to have died in Denmark and was interred in the Bugembe royal tombs in Wakiso.

Prince Frederick Wampamba Ssuuna

His mother was Edith Kasozi. He was a pilot and Commissioned Officer in the Ugandan Air Force. It’s alleged that he was assassinated on the orders of Idi Amin at Bombo in 1972. He is buried at the Kasubi Tombs.

Prince Henry Kalemeera

He was born in 1955, and his mother was Damali Nnakawombe Kisosonkole. He was educated at King’s College, Buddo, and Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia. He is an aeronautical engineer who settled in the United States.

Prince George Michael Ndawula

He was born in 1956 to Eriosi Nalwoga. In his younger days, he was a socialite and loved dancing at Club Suzana and Silver Springs in Bugolobi. He called himself “the fury” of President Idi Amin. He was once locked up at CPS and released after a brawl with Amin’s soldiers. He was partially blind.

Prince Joseph Ndawula

His mother was Nzera Nabakooza. He has worked with the foreign services and still serves as Uganda’s High Commissioner to Namibia.

He looked after Kabaka Mutebi when he went there to rest in 2024.

Prince Richard Walugembe Bamweyana

As earlier mentioned, Prince Walugembe shared a mother with Kabaka Mutebi and died in 1992 at the age of 35. He studied Journalism in Ghana

Prince Katabaazi Mukarukidi

Not much is known about him, only that his mother was Damali Nnakawombe. He was an airline pilot in Nigeria, and records show that he died.

Prince Patrick Nakibinge

Similarly, not much is known about him apart from the fact that his mother was Muzaana Lukanyamagulu. He is said to have died in the 2000s and is buried at Kasubi Tombs.

Prince Daudi Golooba

He was born in 1953 to Magdalena Buwoomyaki. He was educated at King’s College Budo and Makerere University and was an accountant.

He converted to Islam in the 2000s and died in 2025.

Prince Herbert Kateregga

He was born in 1964, and his mother was Kaakako Rwanchwende, an Ankole Princess. He settled in the UK but regularly appears at Kabaka Mutebi’s functions.

Prince Fredrick Mawanda Mutebi

He was born in 1965 to Muzaana Specioza Namagembe. He died and was interred in the Bugembegembe royal tombs in Wakiso.

Prince Daudi Kintu Wasajja

This is a prominent socialite. His mother was Winifred Keihangwe, and he was born in Kampala in May 1966, after his father had left Uganda. He was educated at the University of Nottingham in the UK, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts. He works in the Buganda Land Board.

DAUGHTERS

Princess Dorothy Kabonesa Naamukaabya Nassolo

Her mother was Damali Nakawombe. She was born at the Mengo Palace in 1951. She is the eldest child of Kabaka Mutesa II and is a graduate of the University of Nairobi. She lives in Kampala.

Princess Dina Kigga Mukarukidi

Her mother was Beatrice Kabasweka, a daughter of the 4th Omukama of Toro, Daudi Kasagama IV. She works at the headquarters of the African Union in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Princess Anne Sarah Kagere Nandawula

Her mother was Kate Ndagire, and she was born at Mengo in 1951. She is the wife of Vincent Bbaale Mugera, the former chairman of Express FC.

Princess Catherine Agnes Nabaloga

She shares a mother with Princess Sarah Kagere. She was installed as the Lubuga at the coronation of Kabaka Mutebi. She is the patron of Buganda Heritage Association.

She holds a PhD in Linguistics.

Princess Alice Mpologoma Zaalwango

Her mother was Edith Kasozi. She was born in 1961 and educated at Gayaza Junior School, Kibuli Secondary School, and Makerere University. She died in Pretoria, South Africa, from breast cancer on 23 March 2005.

Princess Stella Alexandria Sserwamutanda Ndagire

She was born in Nairobi, Kenya. Her mother was Zibiah Wangari Ngatho, a Kikuyu. She was raised in Kampala and Nairobi but is now settled in Atlanta, Georgia, U.S.

Princess Jane Mpologoma Naabanakulya

She was born in Sunga Village, Buyaga, Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom, on 12 April 1964. Her mother, Naome Nanyonga, was a midwife and hailed from the Bunyoro sub-region. In 2003, she moved to London, England, where she lives. She is a pastor in London, and this week during the presentation of Buganda’s budget, Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga introduced her to the members of Lukiiko.

Princess Gertrude Christine Naabanaakulya Tebattagwabwe

She was born at Mengo Hospital on August 20, 1964. Her mother was Margaret Nakato of Nkumba. She grew up in Uganda until the age of nine, when she relocated to London, England. She moved back to Uganda in May 2013 and died in May 2025.

Princess Diana Balizzamuggale Teyeggala

She died in 2025 and was the youngest of Mutesa’s children. She was born in October 1966, after her father had gone into exile. Her mother is Catherine Karungu, an Ankole princess. Teyeggala never saw her father alive. She is buried at the Kasubi Tombs.
