In July last year, Herbert Burora, the then RCC of Rubaga, was arrested and charged in court over statements he allegedly made accusing Speaker Anita Among of being a thief and promoting corruption.
Yesterday, Burora reconciled with Among at a function where NRM leaders and delegates from Kampala endorsed the Bukedea Woman MP for the position of second national vice chairperson of the NRM.
Burora said President Museveni had intervened in the matter, so he instructed the Attorney General to write a letter on April 4, 2025, withdrawing the case. Among accepted Burora’s apology and the two shook hands.
The speaker said that people make mistakes, and so she holds no grudge against Burora.
At the event, NRM district leaders from Nakawa, Rubaga, Kawempe, Central, and Makindye divisions unanimously agreed to support Anita Among for the CEC position. Among will face off with former speaker Rebecca Kadaga, who has held the post since 2011 when it was introduced.
Among said it is time for the NRM party to have new leadership at the top.
