The Archbishop of Kampala Archdiocese, Paul Ssemogerere, has warned the youth against indulging in drugs, saying it was leading many into depression and committing suicide.
Celebrating the Easter mass at Lubaga Cathedral, Ssemogerere called upon the parents to instill hope and guidance in their children.
“We are overwhelmed by our young people who have resorted to suicide as a result of depression and stress in their lives. Parents should help to groom responsible leaders of tomorrow,” he said.
He warned young people against alcoholism, substance abuse, and being absentee parents, vices, he said, had led to broken homes.
At the same mass, Prince David Wasajja, who represented Buganda Kingdom, reminded the central government of its duty to pay rental earnings for Buganda property currently used by their different institutions.
“We still have a big challenge as Buganda to get paid for our property that is being used by the government, yet they were returned to us,” he said.
Wasajja appealed to leaders to help the needy in their communities and promote Bulungibwansi (communal work) as a way of stemming development in our country.
After mass, the minister of state for Higher Education Dr John Chrysostom Muyingo told Bbeg Media that as we come closer to the 2026, Ugandans should prepare themselves for a peaceful election free from conflict and violence.
He explained that voters need to vote for able and credible leaders who will help them share in the national cake.
The mass attracted Christians of all walks of life.
