Police issue traffic guidelines ahead of Museveni swearing-in

The traffic police have issued guidelines ahead of President Museveni’s swearing-in ceremony, scheduled for May 12 at Kololo Independence Grounds.

They warned motorists to expect restrictions on several major roads in Kampala.

The affected roads include Munyonyo Road, the Southern Bypass, Fairway Hotel traffic lights, Yusuf Lule Road, Sezibwa Road, Wampewo Avenue, Acacia Avenue, and Golf Course Road.

Police said the Entebbe Expressway and Lugogo Bypass will remain open to the public, although traffic movement on the routes will face intermittent restrictions.

Addressing journalists at the Uganda Media Centre, police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke appealed to the public to cooperate with security agencies during the event.

“The country will be receiving heads of state from various countries, and we need to treat them as guests. The restricted roads will only be accessed by vehicles with accreditation stickers,” he said.

Kituuma added that only vehicles transporting guests will be allowed to park at the Kololo Ceremonial Grounds.

He also cautioned motorists against reckless driving, especially drunk driving, during the ceremony period.

“As security, we caution the general public to avoid reckless driving. Do not drink and drive. The law will catch up with you. Let us remain disciplined and have a successful swearing-in ceremony,” he said.
