Prossy Mwanjuzi, the deputy RDC Mityana, has rescued a widow who was violently thrown out of her house by in-laws after the death of her husband.
Four days after the burial of her husband, Sylvia Nalubega, a resident of Kibibi Garage A village in Mityana, faced the wrath of her in-laws who wanted to take over properties left by her late husband, Stephen Lwere.
They proceeded to lock the house, leaving her stranded with her property.
Lwere died last week from injuries sustained in an accident. At the time of his death, Nalubega had gone to her village to seek treatment.
She says Lwere’s relatives threw Nalubega out of the house, claiming she had abandoned her husband at the time of need.
“I was sick and recovering when I heard that my husband had been involved in an accident,” she said. Nalubage had spent 16 years in marriage with Lwere.
When she heard of Nalubega’s plight, Mwanjuzi quickly rushed to the village to rescue her.
She found Nalubega outside of the house, sitting on a pile of some of the property, and warned relatives against taking the law into their hands.
“The relatives used force instead of the law. If they have any issue with the widow, they should go to the courts of law. We are not going to allow this kind of impunity,” Mwanjuzi said.
“We are going to charge the relatives who engaged in this impunity,” she added.
