Kaziimba lashes at MPs who received Shs 100 million

Archbishop Stephen Kaziimba has lashed out at MPs who reportedly received Shs 100 million as a token of appreciation by President Museveni for passing the Coffee Bill.

In his Easter message, Kaziimba said this smacks of corruption in a country where the quality of social services is in a poor state.

“I am concerned about the huge amounts of money given to MPs while many of the roads are in a bad condition, hospitals lack medicines, and some Ugandans are left homeless due to land grabbing,” he said.

He becomes the first religious leader to criticise the bounty that has been a subject of debate for the past week. President Museveni confirmed that the Shs 100 million had been sourced from the classified expenditure.

On the political environment in the country, he discouraged Christians from engaging in politics of violence, which has left many homeless.

He called for dialogue among the conflicting parties.

Kaziimba said Ugandans should be keen in conserving the environment and most avoid involving themselves in activities that destroy nature.

“When you drop rubbish in the drainage system, it will affect the lives of many Ugandans. Therefore, avoid this habit,” he said.
