Content creator and journalist, Daniel Irish Kanyerezi, has raised concerns over what he described as the alleged theft of creative concepts following the drone show staged in Kampala on the eve of President Museveni’s inauguration.

In a video circulating on social media, Kanyerezi claimed that he was the brain behind the drone concept but his ideas were later stolen and implemented without his input.

“I had virtual and physical meetings with some big NRM shots about these ideas. They told me to put the concept in writing which I did. But they went ahead to implement them without even acknowdleging or compensating me,” Kanyerezi said.

Kanyerezi described the matter as “a cry for justice” for Ugandan creatives, saying innovators like him should be recognised and protected for their work. He urged the public to pay attention to the challenges faced by content creators and innovators in the country.

The drone show, organised as part of activities leading to Museveni’s swearing-in ceremony at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds, lit up the skies over Kampala on Monday night.

Hundreds of synchronised drones formed images, patriotic symbols and political messages associated with the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM).

The display was widely promoted as Uganda’s first large-scale public drone show and attracted crowds across areas including Kololo, Naguru and Nakasero. Organisers said the event was intended to showcase President Museveni’s achievements and thank supporters ahead of the inauguration ceremony.

Museveni’s inauguration ceremony held on May 12 drew regional leaders, diplomats and thousands of supporters to Kampala amid heightened security across the city.
