Cedric Babu is dead!

Cedric Babu Ndilima,  son of veteran politician Capt. Francis Babu, has tragically passed away in Nairobi today, Bbeg Media has learnt.

Two close friends confirmed the news of his tragic passing. The family is yet to release an official statement.

Cedric was battling a severe heart condition and there had been efforts to raise funds for a life-saving heart transplant in UK started by friends.

The 49-year-old collapsed while attending a tennis tournament in Kigali, Rwanda, earlier this month and was airlifted to Aga Khan University Hospital in Nairobi, where he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

A former Davis Cup player and President of the Uganda Tennis Association, he was also a passionate advocate for youth development and sports, having represented Uganda as both a player and captain in international tennis competitions.

In 2021, Cedric ran for the Kampala Central parliamentary seat under the National Resistance Movement (NRM) ticket.

The news of his passing comes a day after a public fundraising campaign launched by his family to raise £300,000 (approximately Shs 1.4 billion) for a heart transplant abroad.

Capt Francis Babu’s son needs Shs 1.4 bn for a new heart. Any help?

The campaign, supported by a GoFundMe page and appeals across social media, highlighted Cedric’s critical condition and the urgent need for medical evacuation to London for specialized treatment.

Despite the outpouring of support from friends, family, and well-wishers, the funds were not raised in time to facilitate the procedure.

Born on August 31, 1976, in Kenya, Cedric was the son of Capt. Francis Babu, a former  minister and aviator, and Olive Zaitun Kigongo.
