The Kabaka Foundation, one of the key institutions in Buganda kingdom has announced plans to introduce a medical scheme that will enable people in Buganda access affordable healthcare.

The executive director of the foundation, Kaggwa Eddy Ndagala, said this during a planning session to organise the upcoming 4th Tubeere Balamu Health Camp by the Kyaddondo county .

“We have decided to introduce the medical insurance scheme to help the Kabaka’s subjects and people of Uganda to access affordable medical services. This was from our study carried out on our previous health camps in different counties like Ssingo and Busiro,” said Ndagala.

He explained that applicants will be required to pay an annual fee of Shs 150,000 for this insurance scheme.

Beneficiaries will be offered an insurance cover of Shs 2 million and also paid some money when they are admitted at partner health facilities.

Ndagala called upon county and subcounty chiefs and the public to support the upcoming Tubeere Balamu Health Camp organised by the Kyaddondo county that will on May 6 at Wankulukuku Stadium.

He noted that they still lack enough tents, chairs, food to cater for the participants, and drugs to give to the sick Kabaka subjects.

Dr Fiona Nakalinda Kalinda, the deputy Kyaddondo chief, appealed to Kabaka’s subjects and partners to come in large numbers and fight the spread of both communicable and non-communicable diseases.

She explained that they will screen HIV/Aids, cancer, diabetes, Hepatitis B, heart diseases, tuberculosis, sickle cell, eye problems, blood pressure, among others.

She said they will be bringing family planning services, immunisation from birth and HPV for teenagers from age 10-14yrs, eye screening, referral for surgery, Antenatal services to link them to the nearest healthy facility for further and safe delivery closer to the people.

Dr Kalinda: “Referrals and linkages are very important in these health camps, and therefore we need to strengthen referrals and linkages for continuity of health care, ultimately improving the quality of lives of Kabaka’s subjects and Ugandans at large.”

Some of the issues to be discussed during the camp are: Nutritional education, linkages for safe male circumcision, blood donation, and general education on different health topics.

This comes at a time when many of Kabaka’s subjects and Ugandans at large are unable to access affordable medical care.
