The media fraternity is mourning the death of BBS Terefayina journalist Joseph Sseruwooza, who passed away on Friday morning at the Uganda Heart Institute in Mulago.
Sseruwooza, said to be in his early 30s, was a reporter with BBS Terefayina and widely known for covering Parliament. He was also the host of the station’s popular current affairs programme, Zuukuka N’Ensonga.
According to friends, Sseruwooza yesterday complained of chest pains and was rushed to hospital for specialised treatment.
Doctors reportedly discovered a blood clot and prepared him for an operation to remove it. However, his condition worsened when his blood pressure rose during the procedure. He later died at the Uganda Heart Institute.
His death has shocked colleagues, friends and members of the media fraternity, many of whom described him as a hardworking, humble and friendly journalist with a promising future.
At BBS Terefayina, Sseruwooza earned respect for his dedication to reporting, particularly on parliamentary affairs. His reporting helped viewers understand complex political and legislative issues through clear and accessible news coverage.
Colleagues said he was always willing to support fellow journalists and was passionate about telling stories that mattered to ordinary Ugandans.
News of his death spread quickly across various social media platforms on Friday morning, prompting an outpouring of tributes from friends, workmates and viewers who remembered him as a professional journalist and a kind person.
He will be buried tomorrow at Lugalama in Rakai district at 4 pm.
