Mike Sebalu, the chairman of the university council at Lawrence University, has called on friends, former students, and well-wishers of St Lawrence schools and colleges to support the upcoming Mukiibi Run aimed at raising funds for a mega cyber laboratory.

The marathon, organised in honour of the late Prof Lawrence Mukiibi, is scheduled to take place on June 20, 2026, at London College School.

Mukiibi died on May 28, 2017, at Norvik Hospital in Kampala. He was 69 years old at the time of his death.

Speaking at the launch of the run, Sebalu described Mukiibi as one of Uganda’s greatest educationists whose contribution transformed the country’s education sector.

“Prof Mukiibi loved education and changed many people’s lives. He also supported many schools across the country,” Sebalu said.

He revealed that the organisers are targeting to raise Shs 300 million to complete the construction and equipping of a mega cyber laboratory, a project he said was among Prof Mukiibi’s dreams before his death.

“The structure for the laboratory is already in place, but it lacks equipment. The facility will help to promote technology, scientific research, and innovation,” Sebalu said.

He added that the marathon is different from ordinary runs because it is aimed at creating a lasting impact within the St Lawrence fraternity and the wider education sector.

“This is a run with a purpose. We are intentional about creating a lasting impact,” he said.

The headmistress of London College School, Rose Galabuzi Kintu, urged school owners and members of the public to participate in the event in honour of Prof Mukiibi.

She said the late educationist supported many schools whenever he was invited and played a key role in mentoring education leaders.

“Prof Mukiibi was a pace-setter and an exemplary academician. Many people copied the culture and standards he introduced in education,” Galabuzi said.
