Meddie Nsereko says “Mayiga did not want me at CBS”

Veteran radio presenter, Meddie Nsereko, has told two people that he left CBS because he did not see eye to eye with Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga.

We reported last year that Nsereko will not be returning to CBS FM after he applied for sick leave because his eyes had a defect that he wanted to treat in the UK.

However, it has now emerged that Nsereko blames his exit on Mayiga.

“He [Mayiga] did not want me there. I was there to serve the Kabaka, but Mayiga saw it differently,” an impeccable source quoted Nsereko as telling an associate.

Nsereko told the associate that Mayiga had started “micro-managing CBS” and nosing into the “personal affairs” of some presenters, something he could not put up with.

Another person who spoke to Bbeg Media quoted Nsereko as saying that his close association with some of Kampala’s richest people was not viewed well by Mayiga.

Israel Kazibwe Kitooke, Buganda’s minister of Information, told Bbeg Media that Mayiga does not have any bad blood with anybody at CBS.

“The Katikkiro does not run CBS. The radio has a board and management team, so he cannot sack anyone,” Kitooke said.

Kitooke said to the best of his knowledge, Mayiga and Nsereko were close and was shocked by his statements.

He said CBS never sacked Nsereko because it is him who asked for sick leave, which has now stretched to one year.

We have been told that Nsereko is hunting for jobs in the UK.

Nsereko was the host of Kiriza Oba Gana, a political talk show on 89.2, Palamenti Yaffe on Saturdays on 88.9. and the Alive and Kicking Show on Sunday morning. The Sunday show has since been renamed “Mukikadde”.

In 2025, he started his podcast, “The Meddie Nsereko Show”, where he has hosted several prominent people in the political and social spheres.

Nsereko, said to be in his 60s, joined CBS in 1996 but stayed in the shadows of Mulindwa Muwonge until 2001, when Mulindwa left, and he took charge of the talk shows.

In 2014, he said in an interview that working at CBS had opened enormous opportunities for him.

“I have got a lot of mileage from this and respect. My job has also opened doors for me, but all this is possible because I love journalism and I have done it diligently…,” he said.
