It all started with knickers in the bathroom.
Some time in 2019, Rosette Tabitha Nakiryowa, the then wife of former Makindye East MP Michael Mabikke returned from the United Kingdom unexpectedly.
She drove to their marital home in Kansanga, opened the main bedroom and decided to have a shower.
A few feet inside the bathroom, she saw knickers, in various shapes and sizes, dangling from a peg hanger.
Since she knew her knickers well, she immediately realized that a female stranger could have trespassed in her bedroom.
She asked Mabikke: “Who is the owner of these knickers? Whom have you been sharing our bed with?”
The former Makindye East MP started stammering. Then he said he had no idea how the knickers found their way into their private bathroom.
A few days later with the knicker saga still unresolved, Nakiryowa petitioned the Family Division of the High Court seeking to dissolve their marriage using adultery as one of the grounds.
In 2023, what started as a saga over strange knickers in the bathroom eventually led to the dissolution of the pair’s marriage. The two had gotten married in 2005.
Court presided over by Justice Jeane Rwakakokoo agreed that besides the strange “knickers” Nakiryowa had adduced enough evidence to prove that Mabikke had been unfaithful.
Mabikke did not respond to court summons therefore the case was heard exparte.
Nakiryowa also proved that Mabbike has sired children out of the wedlock and that the former legislator had been cruel towards her.
The two had three children aged between 18 years and 10 years.
Court ordered Mabikke to provide Shs 3,000,000 per month as maintennace for the minor children until they clock 18 years.
Nakiryowa was also allowed to occupy the Kansanga residence until the youngest child attained the age of 18. Thereafter, the couple will have a 50:50 share of ownership.
