Simon Byabakama, the Electoral Commission chairman, has said that at least 620 polling stations countrywide will not commence the display of the national Voter’s register as scheduled due to technical glitches.
Addressing journalists at the commission offices in Kampala, Byabakama said the affected polling stations have some glitches that need to be corrected before their registers can be displayed.
“Unlike the rest of the other polling stations where the display is starting today a total of 620 polling stations won’t be able to commence this exercise on the scheduled date.
They include: Arua city (02), Buikwe (01), Buvuma Islands (01), Fort portal (03), Kampala (18), Kikuube (15), Kassanda (02), Kiryandongo (78) and Kitagwenda (01).
Others are: Masaka city (02), Mbarara city (48), Mityana (370), Mpigi (46) and Mukono (32).
Byabakama promised that as soon as the technical glitches are sorted the display of the national voters register in those areas will commence.
The display of the voters’ register is scheduled to run from April 25 to May 15.
He said that registers for youths, persons with disabilities, and older persons will be displayed from April 25 to May 8 this year.
He revealed that no new applications or transfers will be allowed during this exercise.
The Commission has acknowledged that it is now accepting applications for accreditation from both local and international election observers via its website: www.ec.or.ug/accreditation
Invitations to diplomatic missions and international bodies will be coordinated through the ministry of Foreign Affairs.
