Nixon Agasiirwe, the former commander of the Police Special Operations, has been charged with the murder of state prosecutor Joan Kagezi and remanded to prison.
In 2015, Kagezi was fatally shot by unidentified assailants while returning to her home in Kiwatule, a suburb of Kampala. At the time, she was prosecuting suspects linked to the 2010 twin bombings at the High Court in Kampala.
On Monday, Agasiirwe was charged with murder under sections 183 and 184 of the Penal Code. As the offense is a capital crime, triable only by the High Court, he was not permitted to enter a plea.
State prosecutor Joseph Kyomuhendo informed the court that investigations are still in progress.
Nakawa Chief Magistrate Esther Nyadoi ordered Agasiirwe remanded to Luzira Prison until July 8.
