The Wakiso district chairperson, Matia Lwanga Bwanika, has expressed concern about the poor condition of the ambulance at Kajjansi Health Centre IV, which was allocated to serve Busiro South constituency.
Despite Wakiso being a large district, the one ambulance provided in the last financial year is no longer functional for the entire district, comprising eight constituencies and 27 sub-counties. Residents have stated that this situation has been challenging.
Due to these circumstances, Bwanika, who is an aspirant for Busiro South, acted promptly by engaging the Ministry of Health to secure an ambulance, which he handed over to the management of Kajjansi Health Centre IV. The ambulance will support operations across the entire constituency.
While handing over the ambulance, Bwanika urged residents to monitor and maintain the vehicle responsibly. He also requested that they scrutinize the driver to prevent misuse, such as using the ambulance to transport bodies for burial, which could lead to its quick deterioration.
Dr. Simon Peter Bulwa, the head of Kajjansi Health Centre IV, stated that they have been relying on boda bodas (motorcycle taxis), which pose challenges in reaching remote areas like the islands of Bussi.
Dr. Emmanuel Mukisa, the Wakiso District Health Officer, explained that they still face challenges with various issues, such as the need to renovate hospitals and other facilities.
However, he expressed optimism that improvements will be made gradually.
