Maria Lugira, an African traditional singer, has big dreams.
In the last two years post she has been working with school pupils and youth in communities in Uganda, and this has helped her gain invaluable experience.
She has trained school choirs and other young people in African traditional music.
The 24-year-old was born in Masaka but currently lives in Kampala.
In December 2022, she attained a certificate in vocal training specializing in African Traditional singing from Esom School of Music
Given her vast experience locally, she now wants to showcase her talent on the global stage.
In an interview with Bbeg Media, Lugira said once this dream is realized, even the sky will not be the limit.
“I want to showcase my talent in African traditional music on the International stage something that will in return help promote Uganda Culture. I have a desire to share my experience with other regions of Africa (West and South Africa), Europeans, Americans, Canadians, and other people in Traditional African music,” she said.
“It is known that many of these people love African traditional music but have not met right artists of the given craft like me to grab the opportunity.”
One of her plans is to promote her craft. She hopes this will increase chances of developing more cultural centres in Uganda and abroad that can be accessible to people with interest in traditional music.
Besides being a folk singer and of African traditional music, Lugira also offers advice and guidance to organizers of traditional functions, traditional tours, trainings, and many other projects boosting her income.
