EC to aspirants: Know the nomination rules ahead of time

The Electoral Commission (EC) has issued a notice urging all individuals aspiring to contest in the 2026 local councils elections to familiarize themselves with the nomination requirements ahead of time.

Simon Byabakama, the EC chairperson, said the nomination period for candidates is set for September 3 to September 24, 2025.

Nominations will be conducted based on the level of the local government councils and will take place at designated venues from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM on weekdays during the specified dates.

Below is the corrected and clarified schedule for the nomination process:

The Commission advised aspirants to obtain nomination forms and guidelines from district electoral commission offices nationwide or download soft copies from the Electoral Commission’s website: www.ec.or.ug
