EC commends public for enthusiasm during voters’ register display exercise

The Electoral Commission has commended people who have turned up to check voters details during the ongoing voters’ register display exercise.

The EC spokesperson Julius Mucunguzi said the response to the exercise has been good.

“The exercise is moving on well as many of Ugandans have turned to checking their details using online system of the Electoral Commission,” he told Bbeg Media.

Mucunguzi said over 70% of the population is youth. The online way of checking has been successful and sometimes the electoral commission is overwhelmed.

Commenting on the proceedure followed by political parties to share funds, Mucunguzi said the matter needed more legal interpretation.

According to him, money should be shared on the basis of the number of MPs they have.  s

On 25th April 2025 EC started display of national voter register at all polling stations. The exercise will conclude on May 15.

Mucunguzi told Bbeg Media that they will not extend the exercise.

He said they had instituted parish tribunals to deal with complaints arising from the exercise at different stations.
