The Seventh-day Adventist Church has urged citizens to remain calm and refrain from violence as the country heads towards the 2026 general elections.

Uganda is scheduled to hold presidential and parliamentary elections on January 15, 2026.

In an end-of-year message, the president of the Uganda Union Mission of Seventh-day Adventists, Pastor Samuel Kajoba, appealed to Ugandans to exercise restraint and continue respecting one another before, during and after the electoral process

“It has always been my appeal, and it remains my appeal, to all Ugandans to approach this period with calmness, restraint and mutual respect. Political differences must never lead to violence, intimidation, hate speech or the spread of misinformation,” Kajoba said.

He urged citizens to embrace tolerance and peaceful co-existence, describing elections as a reflection of the country’s shared values rather than a source of division.

“Elections are not merely political events; they are a test of our values as a nation, our unity, and our commitment to peaceful co-existence,” Kajoba said.

The church leader also directed a special message to young people, warning them against being manipulated into acts of violence, noting that they form the backbone of the nation.

“Choose peaceful engagement, dialogue and responsible participation that safeguards your future and the future of Uganda,” he said.
