President Museveni on Friday told leaders in the Pentecostal churches to preach the gospel of wealth creation to their followers.

Museveni was speaking at the “Command the Future” conference at Rubaga Miracle Centre, hosted by pastors Robert and Jessica Kayanja.

The conference, which opened on Wednesday, November 12 and runs until Sunday, November 16, has been graced by Dr Paula White, the spiritual advisor of President Donald Trump.

Drawing a comparison with early American Puritans, who built the United States through faith, discipline, and hard work”, Museveni urged believers to set an example.

“Let your light so shine before men that they see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven,” he said.

He recalled how, at one point, some mainstream Christian leaders pushed the government to ban the pentocostal movement.

“I remembered the Bible,” Museveni said. “When the disciples asked Jesus whether to stop others casting out demons, Jesus said, ‘If they are not against us, they are with us.’ So I refused to discriminate.”

Earlier Museveni and the First Lady, Janet Museveni, met briefly with Pastor Kayanja and  Dr White.

The president later commissioned new entry and exit gates for the cathedral, still under construction, drawing warm applause from the congregation.

Kayanja paid an emotional tribute to Museveni, recalling how they once worshipped under a papyrus shelter at Rubaga Miracle Centre.

“Your Excellency, in 1986 they didn’t want us to worship here. But you said, ‘Let them worship.’ We were only 10,000 then. Now we are 14.9 million believers in Uganda,” he said.

He asked the international guests to stand up for recognison saying their presence signalled confidence in Uganda’s peace and stability.

After his message, Museveni blessed the congregation and greeted the visiting clergy. Kayanja then invited several government officials to join him on stage.
