Gov’t Jobs: Western Uganda dominates shortlist for Legal Officer position at ministry of Lands

Western Uganda has emerged as a standout region in the recent shortlisting for the Legal Officer position at the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development in Uganda. The shortlist has been posted on the website of the  Public Service Commission (PSC).

Out of 70 applicants shortlisted, nearly half (30) hail from western Uganda sub-regions such as Ankole, Toro, Bunyoro and Kigezi. Central region follows with about 13 applicants while the rest of the positions are shared out by the East, North and North Eastern regions (see list here https://vacancies.psc.go.ug/Shortlists/GetExamCandidates?advertdetID=6892).

This dominance from Western Uganda has sparked interest and discussions on social media about the factors behind this trend. Some commentators have said it suggests that Western Uganda values education, especially for courses like Law, more highly than other regions. Others have claimed, without evidence, that it is favouritism.

We reported that more than 81,000 applicants applied for 277 positions in various government agencies and institutions.
