President Museveni, alongside Prince Ali Mohammed (Aga Khan) today officially launched the Aga Khan University Hospital at Nakawa. The event marked the formal commencement of a significant partnership between Uganda and the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) to strengthen the country’s health and education sectors.

The ceremony was attended by various government heads of departments, ministers, and diplomats. During the event, Museveni awarded medals to Prince Rahim Aga Khan and Princess Zahra Aga Khan in recognition of their dedication and substantial investments in Uganda.

These investments span critical areas such as health, education, economic development, and poverty alleviation.

In his address, Museveni commended the Aga Khan Development Network for its remarkable contributions to Uganda, particularly through the establishment of the Aga Khan University and Hospital.

He noted that the new facility will significantly improve healthcare access in the country, reducing the need for Ugandans to travel to Kenya for medical treatment.

“This hospital is a milestone in enhancing the healthcare system in Uganda,” Museveni stated.

The President also seized the opportunity to address the issue of corruption, urging investors to report government officials who demand bribes.

“If you help us by reporting those who ask for bribes, we can eliminate this vice, which is a monster in Uganda,” he emphasized.

Prince Rahim Aga Khan, Vice Chancellor of the Aga Khan University, expressed gratitude to Museveni for fostering an enabling environment that has allowed AKDN’s investments to thrive. He specifically acknowledged the government’s support in providing land in Nakawa for the hospital project.

“We are optimistic that this initiative will significantly benefit Ugandans in numerous ways,” Prince Rahim remarked.

On the same occasion, the Minister for Education and Sports, Janet Kataha Museveni, praised the AKDN for its transformative project.
