President Museveni follows only 22 individuals/institutions on his X account. He has 3,640,655 followers as of mid-day August 11, 2025. This is not surprising.
What is, is the choice of people or institutions that he follows.
For instance, Museveni does not follow the Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) account-@MODVA_UPDF. As the commander in chief, some could think this is jarring.
But he follows the @NRMonline, the official X account of the party he leads. The only government ministry whose account Museveni follows is the ministry of Health (@MinofHealthUG).
When it comes to individuals, it gets more interesting. It is no surprise that Museveni follows his wife, Janet Museveni, and son, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the CDF. However, Museveni does not follow his daughter, Natasha Karugire Museveni, whose official verified account is @Nyinancweende.
The president does not follow his vice president, Jessica Alupo, and Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, who all have active accounts on X. The duo religiously follows him on X.
Museveni follows only four ministers in his cabinet: Janet, the minister of Education, Ruth Aceng, the minister of Health, Frank Tumwebaze, the minister of Agriculture, and Kiryowa Kiwanuka, the Attorney General. Of the old political guard, he only follows Dr Ruhakana Rugunda, the former prime minister. He does not follow Amama Mbabazi.
Did Katikkiro Mayiga forget to follow his ‘in-law’ Bobi Wine on X?
Lastly, when it comes to the leadership of Parliament, Museveni only follows Thomas Tayebwa, the deputy speaker, not Anita Among, the head of the institution on X. Why? Only the old man with a hat knows why.
