The Uganda Printing and Publishing Corporation (UPPC) has attained ISO 9001:2015 certification, a development the public enterprise says will strengthen its services and help it compete for business in regional and international markets.
The certification, announced in Entebbe on September 14, 2026, means that UPPC’s Quality Management System has been assessed against the internationally recognised ISO 9001:2015 standard.
The standard focuses on how organisations manage their processes to consistently provide quality products and services while improving customer satisfaction.
For UPPC, the certification comes as the Corporation seeks to modernise its operations, improve customer service and expand its commercial activities beyond its traditional role as a government printer and publisher.
UPPC Managing Director Prof. Sudi Nangoli said the certification would help build confidence in the corporation’s services and strengthen its ability to compete outside Uganda.
“This certification demonstrates that UPPC is operating in accordance to internationally recognised quality standards. It strengthens confidence in our services and positions us to compete more effectively for opportunities both at home and in the international market,” Prof. Nangoli said.
UPPC is responsible for providing printing and publishing services to government ministries, departments, public bodies, private organisations and individuals.
It also publishes the Uganda Gazette, the official Government publication that carries laws, legal notices and other official information.
Under the UPPC Act, the Corporation is also mandated to print and publish Government legislation and documents and provide commercial and security printing services.
Director Business Development Rebecca Nyakairu said the certification was the result of deliberate efforts to strengthen the corporation’s internal systems and make quality a central part of its operations.
“ISO certification is ultimately about the customer. We have strengthened our processes to deliver greater consistency, efficiency and accountability, while creating a culture of continuous improvement across UPPC,” Nyakairu said.
The certification is expected to support UPPC’s efforts to win more clients in both the public and private sectors as it positions itself as a modern printing and publishing company.
The corporation has in recent years expanded its services while also pursuing digital transformation. Its services include commercial printing, publishing, stationery and security printing.
UPPC has also introduced digital services, including the e-Gazette, to make official Government information more accessible.
The ISO certification also adds to the Corporation’s efforts to improve its systems and meet the changing needs of customers.
UPPC is a public enterprise fully owned by the government. It was established under the Uganda Printing and Publishing Corporation Act, which commenced on November 27, 1992.
The Act established UPPC as a body corporate with perpetual succession and gave it responsibility for providing printing and publishing facilities to government and other clients.
