Susan Kataike to face disciplinary action for refusing to hand over office, says Kasule Lumumba

The minister for ICT and National Guidance, Justine Kasule Lumumba, has directed the ministry’s permanent secretary to investigate Susan Kataike, the former spokesperson of the Ministry of Works and Transport.

Kataike is accused of failing to hand over her office to the incoming spokesperson after the latest transfers of government communication officers.

Lumumba has asked Dr Aminah Zawedde, the permanent secretary of the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance, to produce a report on the matter immediately.

She also wants Kataike to appear before a disciplinary committee.

Lumumba said public relations officers (PROs) who have not yet reported to their new stations should be warned.

She said the transfers followed the law and were a normal part of the political cycle.

Lumumba noted that President Yoweri Museveni returns to Ugandans every five years to seek a fresh mandate.

She said that after each term, public servants, including ministers, are moved to new posts.

The same rule applies to all PROs in government offices, she said.

Lumumba described Kataike’s conduct as disrespectful and unacceptable.

“I implore the permanent secretary, Madam Zawedde, to investigate and make sure she comes up with an immediate report,” she said.

“She must face the disciplinary committee.”

Lumumba added that a warning must go to the other PROs who have not yet moved to the offices where they were posted.

Efforts to get a comment from Kataike were not successful by the time of publication.
