Mengo has instructed its lawyers to sue Sam Mayanja, the minister of state for Lands, over his continued attacks on the kingdom regarding the Kaazi land.
Christopher Bwanika, Buganda’s attorney general, told journalists today that they had decided to seek legal redress over Mayanja’s wayward utterances.
“We have already instructed a team of lawyers from Buganda Law Chambers and Partners to lodge the suit in court. We will face off with the minister in the courts of law,” Bwanika said.
Mayanja recently said the land occupied by the Uganda Scouts Association at Kaazi belongs to Ssekabaka Daudi Chwa as an individual not Buganda Land Board (BLB). He also ordered the Registrar of Companies to deregister BLB over the saga.
But Bwanika said the Kaazi land belongs to Buganda therefore anyone who trespasses on it is breaking the law.

He said the land was first registered in the names of Sir Daudi Chwa and later transferred to Sir Edward Muteesa 11 Kabaka. It was then transferred to Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi.
BLB spokesperson Dennis Bugaya said Mayanja deserves to be sued over his personal interest on the kabaka estate.
“We are not going to rest until we teach the minister a lesson of not abusing the Kabaka and declaring personal interest in the Kabaka estate which is unlawful,” Bugaya said.
The Kaazi land is part of the 350 estates returned to the kingdom under the 1993 Traditional Rulers (Restitution of Assets and Properties) Act.
