Dembe FM reopens but where is Kasuku?

Dembe FM may have reopened on February 14, but its ardent listeners would have noted that something was missing: the big names that made it soar to high levels.

Where is Isaac Katende popularly known as Kasuku? Where is Sam Gombya, Ssenga Nantume?

The radio has retained some old-timers like Shafik Kayima and Mike Sebalu. It has also added new voices in the shape of Evelyn Mic, who was at Galaxy FM, Gabriel Buule, a social commentator and Andrew Kaggwa, one of the finest arts journalists in Uganda.

As for Binabaibe, she went to work at Radio 4 after Dembe closed. However, we have been told that management is trying to woo her back from the station owned by Minister Balaam Barugahara.

Kasuku, on the other hand, started a popular YouTube platform where he has gained a huge following. From the look of things, he is doing so well that it would have to take someone with deep pockets to prize him away.

The new Dembe has some new shows like Twejjewo, while other popular shows like Talk and Talk, Ekilove Love, and Dembe Taxi could return on air, according to sources.

So far, the jury is still out on whether Dembe will regain its former glory.

Let’s listen.
