Kampala Lord Mayor, Ronald Balimwezo Nsubuga, has unveiled his executive, appointing Faridah Nakabugo, the lord councillor for Lubaga II, as deputy lord mayor.
Nakabugo replaces Doreen Nyanjura, who stood for Parliament but lost.
Other members appointed to the committee include Dr Shamim Nambasa, who will serve as secretary for Finance and Planning, Judith Nalukwago as secretary for Social Services, and Godfrey Luyombya as secretary for Planning and Works.
Speaking after unveiling the committee, Balimwezo urged all newly elected lord councillors, regardless of their political affiliation, to put aside their differences and focus on serving the people of Kampala.
“Ugandans need better services, including good roads and prompt garbage collection. We must embrace the spirit of unity and work together with the executive wing of Kampala Capital City Authority to ensure that we effectively execute our duties as leaders. Teamwork is a pillar of success,” Balimwezo said.
He called on members of the executive committee to recommit themselves to serving the city diligently in their respective roles.
Meanwhile, John Mary Ssebuwufu, the KCCA speaker, pledged to lead the council with integrity and honesty.
“Respect for the council is key, and I call upon councillors to maintain a high level of respect during council sessions,” Ssebuwufu said.
He added that every councillor would be allowed to express his or her views and stressed that punctuality should remain a guiding principle for the council.
Ssebuwufu also urged councillors to cooperate fully with Balimwezo to enable him to perform his duties effectively and diligently.
